McDonald and his girlfriend, Brylie St. Clair, got engaged this past offseason...Was on his senior trip, a cruise to Puerto Rico, when he was drafted by the Giants. Said he was on a beach when he got the call...Told the Paradise Card Breaks show that he wants teammate Landen Roupp's autograph because Roupp has the best curveball McDonald has ever seen...Had his jersey number (18) retired and received the key to his hometown of Lucedale, Miss., in Dec. 2024...Loves to go "frogging," which is when you go on riverbanks at night and hunt for frogs with your bare hands. He says frog legs taste like a more gamey chicken.

Started the season with Triple-A Sacramento and spent the majority of the year with the River Cats...Was 9-9 with a 5.31 ERA (84 ER, 142.1 IP), 144 strikeouts and a 1.45 WHIP in 29 games (24 starts) with Sacramento...His 144 strikeouts were second-most in all Triple-A, while his 142.1 innings ranked third...Recalled on Sept. 16 from Triple-A and pitched 2.0 innings of relief that night at Arizona...Made his first MLB start on Sept. 21 at LAD...Joined Justin Verlander as the only two Giants in 2025 to pitch at least six innings and allow one or no runs in a start against LAD in 2025...Made his second career start on Sept. 26 vs. Colorado...Earned his first career win and recorded the first double-digit-strikeout (10) game of his career while allowing three unearned runs in seven innings...Became one of five Giants in the SF era to have a 10+ strikeout game in career game No. 4 or fewer, joining Kyle Harrison (2023), Tim Lincecum (2007), Shawn Estes (1996) and Juan Marichal (1960)...Finished the year 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA (three ER, 15 IP), 14 strikeouts and a 1.00 WHIP in three MLB games.

Missed the start of the year with a groin injury and split the season between the ACL, High-A, Double-A and Triple-A...Had a 3-7 record and 4.40 ERA (42 ER, 86.0 IP) in 23 appearances (20 starts) across all levels...Added to the Major League roster on Sept. 29 and made his MLB debut that afternoon vs. STL... Threw three hitless, scoreless innings of relief with a walk and a strikeout...Became the second player in Giants history to make their MLB debut on the final day of the season, joining Justin Knoedler (Oct. 3, 2004)...Was also the first Giants pitcher since RHP Ernie Maun (May 16, 1924) to throw at least three innings without allowing a hit or run in his MLB debut...Had a 3.43 ERA (8 ER, 21 IP) with 14 strikeouts, a 0.90 WHIP and a .181 BAA over his final four Triple-A starts prior to his debut...Was the sixth member of the Giants’ 2019 signed Draft class to debut in the Majors (also OF Grant McCray, IF/OF Tyler Fitzgerald, RHP Caleb Kilian, RHP Cole Waites and RHP Nick Avila).

Started the year on the Injured List with right shoulder inflammation and was reinstated on May 5...Opened the year at High-A Eugene, throwing 3.0 innings of relief in his first outing on May 6...Landed 0n the IL once again on May 11 with a left hamstring strain, an injury that led him to miss nearly two months of action...was transferred to a rehab assignment on July 5...Made five rehab starts between the ACL Giants Orange and Black and worked 9.2 innings with a 2.79 ERA and 12 strikeouts...Was reinstated on July 28 and had a stellar return to the Emeralds...did not allow an earned run through his first five starts (21.0ip) and limited opponents to a .159 clip...Earned NWL Pitcher of the Week honors on Aug.20 after snagging his second win of the season with 5.0-scoreless innings...Was named August’s NWL Pitcher of the Month as a result of his strong stretch with Eugene...finished the month with a 0.35 ERA (1er, 26.0ip) through six starts, holding batters scoreless in four of the six outings...struck out 28 and limited opponents to a .151 average...McDonald gave up a combined three earned runs in eight starts (0.78 ERA) after rejoining the Emeralds...Was added to the 40-man roster on Nov. 14 ahead of the Rule 5 deadline.
2022
Split the season between Single-A San Jose and High-A Eugene. Served mostly as a reliever, appearing 19 times out of the ‘pen and making 10 starts. Went 6-3 with a 2.31 ERA (26er, 101.1ip) and 120 strikeouts between the two teams.
