A's closer Blake Treinen named to American League All-Star Team

Blake Treinen of the Oakland Athletics has been named to the American League All-Star Team for the 89th Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington DC. It is his first career All-Star selection.

OAKLAND, Calif. - Blake Treinen of the Oakland Athletics has been named to the American League All-Star Team for the 89th Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington DC. It is his first career All-Star selection.
Treinen is 5-1 with 22 saves and a 0.81 ERA (4 ER, 44.2 IP) with 54 strikeouts while allowing a .172 opponents batting average in 36 relief appearances this season. He leads Major League relievers in ERA (0.81) and is tied for 1st in the American League in opponent OPS (.449), 3 rd in slugging (.221), 4th in saves (22) and on-base percentage (.229) and 8th in innings pitched (44.2). In his last 28 games since May 2, he is 4-0, 19-for-19 in save opportunities with a 0.55 ERA (2 ER, 32.2 IP) with 40 strikeouts.
The right-hander is the first A's reliever to be named to the All-Star Team since Sean Doolittle in 2014 when Oakland had seven representatives at the game.
In five Major League seasons, Treinen has posted a 2.86 ERA (97 ER, 305.2 IP) with 286 strikeouts in 256 games, including seven starts with Washington (2014-17) and Oakland (2017-18). He was acquired by Oakland in a five-player trade with Washington on July 16, 2017. He was originally selected by Oakland in the 7th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
