Assembly Bill 1191, authored by Rob Bonta (D-Oakland), passed the California State Assembly Natural Resources Committee by a 7-0 vote Monday evening. AB 1191 is intended to support the development of the Howard Terminal site in Oakland to include a baseball ballpark for the Oakland Athletics, as well as much-needed housing, including affordable housing, retail, and mixed-use development that will provide access to the waterfront and an amazing public amenity for Oakland. 

More than 200 community leaders, labor representatives, environmental justice activists, A's fans, and others packed the committee hearing and spoke prior to the vote. 

"Tonight's Assembly vote is an important step in the process of building a new ballpark district at Howard Terminal that will be a model of green design, sustainable development, and environmental justice reform," said Oakland A's President Dave Kaval. "We appreciate the vote of confidence from the Assembly members and greatly value their questions and input. We still have much work to do in this process, but this vote is an important moment for Oakland." 

“This 7-0 vote with bipartisan support and no “no” votes is a very strong endorsement of the City of Oakland, the East Bay, and the Athletics,” said Assemblymember Rob Bonta. “The A’s commitment to build a world-class, sustainable ballpark at Howard Terminal will mean thousands of jobs, billions in economic impact for the region, and more vital affordable housing in our community. We have tremendous momentum now heading into our next committee vote on Wednesday.”

AB 1191 will be heard next on Wednesday, April 24 in the Assembly Local Government Committee.
