Brewers step up to fight childhood cancer

MILWAUKEE - On Saturday, September 15, the Brewers along with Aurora Health Care®, Northwestern Mutual, West Bend Mutual Insurance Company and several community partners including The MACC Fund, Alex's Lemonade Stand and Gold In September (G9), will raise awareness for childhood cancer research and treatment with a stadium-wide, navy-and-gold visual.

Blue and gold placards will be placed on seats throughout the stadium, with detailed instructions on when and how to display it. At the end of the fourth inning, fans will be asked to hold up their placard. A collage will form to create an image of gold ribbons against a blue background. Gold is the international color for pediatric cancer. With help from fans, the Brewers will help raise awareness as well as inspire action for childhood cancer initiatives.

That same day, the Brewers will collaborate with the American Cancer Society to host Coaches vs. Cancer Night. Fans who purchase the Theme Night ticket package will receive an Ed Sedar mini-bobblehead, featuring the Brewers third base coach in purple sneakers. All ticket package purchasers will be invited to walk the warning track in celebration of their support in the fight against cancer. To top it off, the Crew will make a donation to the American Cancer Society for every ticket package sold.

In addition, Gold In September and the American Cancer Society will be on hand to collect donations from fans. Volunteers will set up tables on the concourse and will provide fans with more information on how they can get involved in the fight as well as accept financial contributions.

The awareness event is part of Major League Baseball's larger campaign. Along with the Brewers, clubs across the league have dedicated a special Childhood Cancer Awareness Day in recognition of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

On September 1, in partnership with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) and MLB, the Brewers and other clubs helped raise awareness for the fight against childhood cancer by having players, coaches, umpires and grounds crew members wear gold ribbon decals and wristbands. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children aged 15 and under. Every day, an estimated 36 new children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States alone.

In collaboration with Major League Baseball and Starlight Children's Foundation, hospitals selected by many clubs, including the Brewers, each received a donation of 200 club-themed Starlight Gowns, which replaced traditional hospital garments with high-quality, comfortable and brightly colored gowns for children undergoing treatment. MLB donated an additional 3,000 Starlight Gowns to clubs to distribute to local children's hospitals or hospital pediatric cancer care units.

This is not the first time the Brewers have stepped up to the plate to fight pediatric cancer. In 2016, the Brewers teamed up with Gold In September to host the "Grow Gold Game" at Miller Park. The team lit up Miller Park in gold, while raising awareness for various initiatives.

Tickets are limited for the Coaches vs. Cancer package, and only those who purchase the special Theme Night ticket package are eligible to receive that game's promotional item. To purchase tickets please visit Brewers.com/themenights.
