President of baseball operations Buster Posey is bringing two of his former Giants teammates back to the organization in new front-office roles.

Curt Casali and Javier López are returning to San Francisco as advisors to baseball operations, the club announced Friday. Paul Bien, who spent the last four seasons serving as the Giants’ vice president of baseball analytics, was also promoted to assistant general manager.

Casali, 37, caught in the big leagues for 11 seasons, including two separate stints with the Giants in 2021-22 and ‘24. He served as Posey’s backup during the Giants’ 107-win campaign in ‘21 and appeared in 41 games for San Francisco the following year before he was dealt to the Mariners at the Trade Deadline. The Vanderbilt alum ended up reuniting with the Giants on a one-year deal in ‘24 and played in 41 more Major League games before he retired and took a job in the Reds’ front office.

López, 48, spent half of his 14-year MLB career in San Francisco and was a member of the “Core Four” relievers who helped the Giants win three World Series titles in 2010, ‘12 and ‘14. López, who was inducted into San Francisco’s Wall of Fame in 2024, has worked as a color commentator for NBC Sports Bay Area since retiring from pitching in 2016. He has said he hopes to continue filling in on Giants broadcasts in addition to performing his new front-office duties next year.

Bien, 39, joined the Giants in 2012 and emerged as a key figure in the front office after rising to the top of the baseball analytics department. He is responsible for providing quantitative research and analysis to assist in potential player acquisitions, as well as using data and technology to deliver information to scouting, player development and Major League coaching staffs. Bien is the second assistant GM to work under Posey and GM Zack Minasian, joining longtime staffer Jeremy Shelley.

With Casali and López in the fold, the Giants now have a robust group of advisors reporting to Posey. Other members of the inner circle include former managers Bruce Bochy and Dusty Baker, former GM Bobby Evans, longtime scout John Barr, former bench coach Ron Wotus and Jeff Berry, Posey’s former agent.
