Posey, Gausman on All-MLB Second Team

November 24th, 2021

Catcher and right-hander were both voted to the All-MLB Second Team 2021. The First and Second Teams were announced Tuesday on MLB Network and were determined 50 percent via fan vote and the other 50 percent by a panel of experts.

Major League Baseball introduced its first All-MLB Team awards in 2019 to give a more comprehensive honor that covered the full breadth of a big league season, complementing the All-Star Game selections that are awarded just past the season's halfway point.

Both players were key contributors on a Giants team that won a club-record and Majors-best 107 games to capture the NL West title.

Posey, who won the NL Comeback Player of the Year Award, finished behind Royals catcher Salvador Perez in the voting. Gausman was one of five Second Team starting pitchers. There were also five First Team starters.

Posey hit .304 with 18 homers, 56 RBIs and a .499 slugging percentage last season. His .899 OPS was his highest since 2012, when it was .957.

Gausman, who is a free agent, led the Majors in starts last year with 33 while compiling a 14-6 record and a 2.81 ERA. He finished sixth in the NL Cy Young voting last week.
