Giants to host Buster Posey Day May 7

February 9th, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants fans didn’t get a chance to give Buster Posey a proper send-off before he unexpectedly announced his retirement at the end of the 2021 season, but they won’t have to wait long to honor the greatest catcher in franchise history.

The Giants announced Wednesday that they plan to host Buster Posey Day at Oracle Park on May 7, giving fans a chance to show their appreciation for the three-time World Series champion and seven-time All-Star. Posey will be recognized prior to the Giants’ game against the Cardinals, which will include a commemorative print gate giveaway and other festivities.

Drafted with the fifth overall pick in 2008, Posey spent his entire 12-year career with the Giants, batting .302 while winning the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year Award, '12 NL MVP honor, five NL Silver Slugger Awards, one NL Gold Glove and the '12 NL batting title.

Posey capped his illustrious run with one of the best seasons of his career last year, batting .304 with an .889 OPS and 18 home runs to lead San Francisco to a franchise-record 107 wins and its first NL West title since 2012. Despite his resurgent season, the 34-year-old Posey chose to go out at the top of his game, citing the physical toll of catching and a desire to spend more time with his family.

Fans can secure entry for Buster Posey Day by purchasing the Thrill 22 Plan, a 22-game ticket package the Giants are offering in honor of Will Clark, who will have his number retired on July 30. Single-game tickets will go on sale to the public on Feb. 18.
