Friday's top prospect performers
Here's a look at Friday's top prospect performers from Arizona Fall League and winter league action.
Athletics: Max Muncy, SS (No. 7), Mesa Solar Sox
Muncy continued a great Fall League campaign with a two-hit night highlighted by a solo homer in the sixth inning. The 21-year-old is third on the team with 13 RBIs after plating one in Friday night's contest. The 25th overall pick in the 2021 draft hit his third home run of the Fall League and improved his slash line to .233/.292/.483.
Brewers: Jackson Chourio, OF (MLB No. 2), Aguilas del Zulia
Chourio finished atop the Southern League in hits in 2023, notching a career-best 143 knocks before moving to Triple-A Nashville. While there may have been a break between his last game of the regular season and his first in the Venezuelan Winter League, he hasn't slowed down one bit. Chourio went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs in his season debut.
Cardinals: César Prieto, OF (No. 14), Águilas Cibaeñas
According to MLB Pipeline, Prieto's highest-rated tool is his 55-grade bat, and in his first week of LIDOM play, he's showing why. Prieto has hit safely in five of seven games and tallied multiple knocks in three contests. The most recent multhit performance came on Friday when the Cuba native went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Prieto also walked three times, his career high in professional baseball. The 24-year-old, whom St. Louis acquired in the trade that sent Jack Flaherty to Baltimore, is slashing .310/.412/.448 in LIDOM.
Cardinals: Victor Scott II, OF (No. 4), Scottsdale Scorpions
The phrase "stuff the stat sheet" is traditionally used in basketball games to describe a player with a diverse stat line. On Friday, that phrase applied to Scott, who posted a busy 3-for-4 night for Scottsdale. The 22-year-old speedster stole two bases, swatted his second homer of the fall and laid down a flawless bunt single. He also recorded two RBIs and one run. Cubs: Nick Hull, RHP (Unranked), Mesa Solar Sox
Hull got the start on Friday night and delivered four strong innings without allowing a run. He picked up three strikeouts on the night. Hull had allowed four or more runs in all of his previous Fall League outings. With no walks issued, this was far and away his best outing of the season.
Dodgers: Damon Keith, OF (Unranked), Glendale Desert Dogs
Keith put on a show at the plate on Friday night. He went 4-for-4 while picking up a double and a solo homer along the way. The 23-year-old outfielder's stellar performance gave him the team lead in OPS. Keith hit just his second home run of the season but has been a consistent force at the plate, with a .298/.377/.533 slash line.
Giants: Marco Luciano, SS (MLB No. 26), Leones del Escogido
The Giants' No. 2 prospect had a big night in his Dominican Winter League debut. A couple of hits and a pair of walks added up to three runs for the shortstop. In 14 Major League games played this year, Luciano put up a .333 on-base percentage.
Guardians: Chase DeLauter, OF (MLB No. 85), Peoria Javelinas
Just one hit was the trick for the Guardians' No. 4 prospect as he found a way to bat in four runs for Peoria. A bases-loaded walk in the first was just the start for DeLauter as he connected for the first time in the fourth inning for a three-run home run -- his third of the Fall League. The 22-year-old had two four-RBI games this season with High-A Lake County.
Mets: Jordan Geber, RHP (Unranked), Glendale Desert Dogs
Geber put together four solid innings of one-run ball and struck out six in his start on Friday night. The 24-year-old had a bounce-back outing after giving up three runs over four innings in his last start. Although he gave up a season-high five hits, Geber worked around traffic on the bases to allow just one run to score. The righty has had a long journey to finding consistency, and changes he's made in the Fall League allowed him to deliver his best outing of the campaign. More »
Padres: Jakob Marsee, OF (No. 12), Peoria Javelinas
The Fall League hit king returned for another round on Friday as he collected two more for his Peoria Javelinas. Marsee took one deep in the second inning to bring his home run total to four, tying him for fourth place in fall ball. He went 2-for-3 with three walks and a steal. More »
