SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Giants manager Gabe Kapler has been named the 2021 National League Manager of the Year as voted upon by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Kapler received 28 first place votes and one second place vote for a total of 143 points. 

“The entire Giants organization salutes Gabe Kapler on being named the 2021 NL Manager of the Year,” said Giants Chairman Greg Johnson. “Gabe’s passion, tireless work ethic, determination, collaboration and team-first approach represent the values we aspire to embody throughout the organization. Gabe has done a remarkable job leading our team and it’s great to see all his hard work being honored. Congratulations to Gabe and thank you for all your work on behalf of the Giants and the community.”  

Kapler is the second Giants manager to win the BBWAA Manager of the Year Award, joining Dusty Baker, who won it in 1993, 1997 and 2000. Recently, Kapler was also named the 2021 Sporting News National League Manager of the Year. 

“Gabe has worked incredibly hard and with great purpose since his first day on the job, and we are all thrilled with how his efforts have translated on the field, in the clubhouse, and in the community,” said Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi. “Quite simply, we could not have had the historic season we did in 2021 without his selflessness, leadership, and the relationships he’s fostered across the organization. We congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”

In his second season with the Giants, Kapler led the team to a 107-55 record, their best regular season mark in franchise history, spanning 139 regular seasons of play. It was just the eighth time the Giants franchise reached the 100-win plateau and their 107 wins were the most by an NL team since the 1986 New York Mets won 108 games, which tied the 1975 Cincinnati Reds for the most wins in the NL in the divisional era (1969-present). Behind Kapler, the Giants posted the best overall record in Major League Baseball for the first time since 2000 and on the last day of the regular season they clinched their sixth NL West title and first since 2012, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers by 1.0 game in the standings.
