SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Giants and outfielder Mitch Haniger agreed to terms on a three-year Major League contract worth $43.5 million, which includes an opt-out following the 2024 season. Haniger will make $5 million in 2023, $17 million in 2024, and $15.5 million in 2025.  In addition, Haniger will receive a $6 million signing bonus and would earn a one-time assignment bonus of $1 million if he is traded during the term of this contract. He will also make an annual donation to the Giants Community Fund, donating $55,000 in 2023, $85,000 in 2024, and $77,500 in 2025. 

Haniger, 31, batted .246 with eight doubles, 11 homers and a .736 OPS in 57 games for Seattle last season, while going 5-for-21 with two doubles in five Postseason games. 

The Mountain View, CA native had a career-year in 2021 that saw him set career-bests in home runs (39), RBI (100), runs scored (110) and match a career-best in games played (157). His .804 OPS in 2021 was the second-highest of his career in a full season behind his All-Star campaign in 2018 that saw him post an .859 OPS with 26 homers, 38 doubles and 93 RBI in 157 games. In 2018, Haniger finished 11^th in the voting for American League MVP.  

In seven Major League seasons for Arizona (2016) and Seattle (2017-2022), Haniger has slashed .261/.335/.476 with 109 doubles, 10 triples, 112 home runs, 323 RBI and an .811 OPS in 564 career games. Defensively, he’s played a majority of his career in right field, appearing in 455 games there while also seeing time in centerfield (87 games) and left field (13 games). 

Haniger was a supplemental first-round pick of the Brewers (38th overall) in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly. He also attended Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose.
