Phillies #CollegeSeries Stadium Security Partnerships Night

Event Details

  • Learn from Phillies, Major League Baseball, law enforcement and homeland security executives involved in stadium security during a moderated question and answer session in the Phillies Media Room. Panelists will provide excellent insight into their areas of business, as well as share their career experience and advice. Panelists include:
    • Salvatore DeAngelis, Director, Operations/Security, Philadelphia Phillies
    • Akmal Ali, Principal, Catalyst Partners (Security consultant to teams/facilities in all major sports leagues)
    • John Guest, Chief Protective Security Advisor (PSA), Mid-Atlantic Area, Department of Homeland Security
    • John Skinner, VP of Security and Facility Management, Major League Baseball
    • Dan Tantino, Supervisory Special Agent, FBI 
    • Gregg Murphy, Phillies Broadcaster (Moderator)
  • Hear from a Phillies player about his college and major league experience.
  • Practice networking with Phillies executives and other special guests - including 1983 National League MVP Gary "Sarge" Matthews - during a Phillies Networking Hour. Meet informally with front office personnel from various departments, as well as those who spearhead the Phillies intern and Phillies Ballgirls programs.  Attendees are invited to bring their resumes. 
  • Take #Selfies with the 2008 & 1980 World Series Trophies.
  • Watch that night's Phillies-Reds game from Section 241-245 (a ticket value of $30). Ticket price includes $12 worth of concession and merchandise credit.

Additional Details

  • Check-in begins at 4 p.m. and features a Networking Hour and #selfies with the World Series Trophies until 5 p.m.
  • The panel portion of the program officially starts at 5 p.m., followed by the Phillies-Reds game at 7:05 p.m.
  • The event is limited to 200 students. Interested professors, recent graduates, and parents of students are welcome to attend.
  • Dress is casual to business casual.
  • Students are urged to ask questions throughout the program, as well as in advance, to @Phillies using #CollegeSeries
  • Cost: $30. Includes (in addition to the above networking and panel) a game ticket sections 241-245 ($30 value), as well as $12 worth of concession credit that can be redeemed throughout the ballpark for food, beverage and/or merchandise.

John Skinner - Vice President of Security & Facility Management, Major League Baseball

John Skinner is the current Vice President of Security & Facility Management for Major League Baseball.

As Vice President of Security & Facility Management for Major League Baseball, John Skinner's duties require providing security oversight for baseball's 30 major league ballparks in the United States and Canada. During his leadership tenure, John has facilitated the most significant security changes in major league facilities in baseball history that are consistent with mitigating the present threat environment as it relates to mass gatherings.

Prior to his full time role with MLB, John assisted baseball on a consultant basis for 19 years, assisting with baseball's special events and presenting practical risk-based solutions to baseball players in their lives "outside the ballpark."

John is a native of Detroit, Michigan, and has spent over 30 years in law enforcement in Detroit as well as Port St. Lucie, Fla., with the last of these 12 years as Chief of Police. Under his leadership, the department received numerous accolades by the International Association of Chief of Police for his proactive measures in keeping serious crime to minimal levels and focusing on quality of life issues. He holds a Masters Degree from Barry University in Miami, Fla., and is a graduate of the FBI Leadership school in Quantico, Va.
