Five Minutes with Southpaw

How did you get the name Southpaw?
I was born on the South Side. I am left handed. Southpaw is a baseball term for people who are left handed. I think my parents nailed it. Thanks, Mom and Dad.

What exactly are you?
That's a funny question! Some people think I'm an alligator, frog or even a dirty sock. Those are all really silly, and I'm none of those. I'm just a big fuzzy green dude that loves the Chicago White Sox!

What do you like most about Guaranteed Rate Field?
The fans! They've been so friendly since I made my Major League debut on June 13, 2004. I love getting out visiting with kids and families at the ballpark.

Do you only work at Guaranteed Rate Field?
I'm at almost every home game. I've only missed one game in 2016, and that was to go to San Diego for the All-Star Game! I also do community appearances at birthday parties, hospitals, parades and other events around the Chicagoland area. In 2009, I even traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the historic inaugural parade for White Sox Fan and former President Barack Obama!

What is your favorite food?
It is hard to keep my fur out of my food, so I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. All of the food at Guaranteed Rate Field is really yummy though. I try to squeeze in some nachos, cotton candy and dip-n-dots before the gates open. But ssshhhh, don't tell my boss!

What is your favorite TV show?
I like to watch White Sox games when they're on the road. Besides that, I don't watch much TV. I like to enjoy the outdoors when there's not a home game or event to attend.

What is your favorite color?
My favorite colors are black and silver, just like my favorite baseball team! I also like green and yellow, which seems to follow me everywhere I go.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
I love my annual trip to the All-Star Game! While I'm there I get to see so many White Sox fans and get to support the White Sox All-Stars!

Do you get along with other mascots?
Of course I do! All of the other mascots are my buddies! We keep in touch throughout the year by using our social media accounts. Follow along and interact with my friends and me!

How do fans get you to visit their birthday parties, little league games, and other events?
I love to entertain fans at the ballpark, but getting invited to other events is my favorite! You can invite me to your next event by calling 312-674-5312 or sending an e-mail to [email protected].
