White Sox No. 10 prospect goes on home run barrage at High-A

Kyle Lodise earned a reputation for outperforming his solid tools while working his way from Division II Augusta to becoming a third-round pick out of Georgia Tech last year.

As it turns out, the 22-year-old has plenty of power he can tap into too.

The White Sox No. 10 prospect went deep twice for High-A Winston-Salem on Sunday -- giving him three homers in a stretch of four at-bats -- as the Dash fell to Greensboro, 12-9, at Truist Stadium.

After homering 39 times across three college seasons, the Georgia native is already up to 12 homers in his first full pro campaign after the latest outburst.

Lodise's power surge began in the fourth inning of Saturday's 10-3 win, when he turned on an inside fastball from righty Hung-Leng Chang (Pirates) and drove it 413 feet at 107 mph to left-center. He grounded out to short his next time up, took a pitch off his helmet and then walked before saving the real fireworks for Sunday.

Again served an inside fastball in his first at-bat of the game, Lodise drilled another hard liner -- this time at 106.5 mph off righty Jack Anker -- as the middle portion of back-to-back-to-back homers with James Taussig and Derek Cerda. And then two innings later, he took the starter deep again on a breaking ball away, pulling it down the left-field line.

Although Lodise ended the game with a groundout and a strikeout, his big showing raised his slash line to .210/.363/.395 on the season. The power has been promising, but he also ranks third among Minor Leaguers in the organization with 30 steals and fourth with 61 walks.

Fittingly, of course, cousin Alex Lodise (ATL No. 5), who was drafted 16 spots ahead of him last July, also went deep on Sunday. It was the second time the cousins hit roundtrippers on the same day, after Alex sent two out of the yard on June 19 and Kyle homered once.
