D-backs acquire Chris Johnson from Houston in exchange for Marc Krauss and Bobby Borchering

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have acquired third baseman Chris Johnson from the Houston Astros in exchange for Minor League outfielders Marc Krauss and Bobby Borchering, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.        

Johnson, 27, hit .279 (95-for-341) with 21 doubles, 8 home runs and 41 RBI in 92 games with the Astros this season, including a .429 (15-for-35) mark in his last 9. He ranks second on the Astros in RBI and third in average.

The 6-foot-3, 222-pound right-hander has made 85 starts at third base this season and 4 at first base. Johnson is batting .298 (17-for-57) after the All-Star Break, and .297 (79-for-266) vs. right handers.

Johnson posted career highs in batting average (.308), home runs (11) and RBI (52) in 2010, and is a career .274 (297-for-1,082) hitter with 64 doubles, 26 home runs and 136 RBI in 304 games with the Astros from 2009-12.  He was selected by Houston in the fourth round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Krauss, 24, hit .283 (98-for-346) with 29 doubles, 15 home runs and 61 RBI in 104 games with Double-A Mobile in 2012. He was originally selected by the D-backs in the second round of the 2009 draft.

Borchering, 21, combined to bat .247 (95-for-384) with 23 doubles, 20 home runs and 68 RBI in 102 games between Single-A Visalia and Mobile. He was selected in the first round (16th overall) in the 2009 draft.
