D-backs claim Pacheco from Rockies and designate Evans for assignment

Cahill optioned to Single-A Advanced Visalia

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) claimed infielder/catcher Jordan Pacheco from the Colorado Rockies and designated infielder/outfielder Nick Evans for assignment, as announced by D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers. In an unrelated transaction, right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill was optioned to Single-A Advanced Visalia.

Pacheco will wear No. 31 and is expected to join the D-backs for tonight's game in Houston. The 28-year old played in 22 games for the Rockies this season and hit .236 (17-for-72) with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 8 RBI while appearing in 19 games at catcher, 4 at first base and 1 at second base. He was designated for assignment on June 4.

Over parts of 4 seasons with the Rockies, Pacheco hit .281 (247-for-878) with 54 doubles, 4 triples, 8 homers and 98 RBI in 270 games. He has logged time at first base (103 games), third base (89), catcher (41), second base (3) and left field (1).

Evans, 28, played in 8 games for the D-backs, appearing in 2 games at first base and 1 in left field, and hit .091 (1-for-11) after being selected from Triple-A Reno on May 28.

Cahill, 26, went 1-6 with 1 save and a 5.66 ERA (26 ER in 41.1 IP) in 19 games (4 starts). He was designated for assignment on June 9.
