D-Backs Place Paul Goldschmidt on 15-Day DL, Recall Alfredo Marte from AAA Reno

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) placed first baseman Paul Goldschmidt on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand and recalled outfielder Alfredo Marte (@MarteAlfredo) from Triple-A Reno, as announced by D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Goldschmidt, 26, suffered the injury last night in a ninth-inning plate appearance when he was hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh Pirates' reliever Ernesto Frieri.

Goldschmidt was the starting first baseman for the National League All-Star team, his second straight All-Star Game appearance, first as the starter. In 109 games for the D-backs, he was hitting .300 (122-for-406) with 75 runs scored, 220 total bases, 39 doubles, 1 triple, 19 home runs, 59 extra-base hits, 69 RBI, 64 walks, 9 stolen bases, .396 on-base and .542 slugging percentages and a .938 OPS. In 109 games at first base, he has a .993 fielding percentage with 7 errors in 1,021 total chances, most among first basemen in the Majors.

Among NL players, Goldschmidt ranked first in doubles and extra-base hits, tied for first in runs scored, second in total bases, third in RBI and walks, tied for third in games, fourth in on-base and slugging percentages, fifth in OPS, tied for fifth in hits, tied for seventh in home runs and tied for ninth in average.

Among all players in the Majors, Goldschmidt ranked first in doubles, tied for first in runs, third in extra-base hits, fourth in total bases, tied for fourth in games, fifth in walks and on-base percentage, eighth in slugging percentage and OPS, 11th in RBI and tied for 13th in hits.

Marte, 25, has played in 16 games over 2 stints (May 2-27 & July 22-29) with Arizona this season and hit .258 (8-for-31) with 1 home run, 3 doubles and 7 RBI. He became the first D-back to hit a grand slam for his first Major League home run during a pinch-hit appearance on July 25 @ Phillies.

Marte, who was optioned to Reno on July 29, played last night at Fresno and went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. In 78 games for the Aces, he has batted .319 (86-for-270) with 46 runs scored, 15 doubles, 3 triples, 11 home runs and 45 RBI.
