D-backs reinstate Putz, recall Harris, place Chavez on disabled list and designate Cahill for assignment

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) reinstated right-handed pitcher J.J. Putz from the 15-day disabled list, recalled right-handed pitcher Will Harris from Triple-A Reno, placed infielder Eric Chavez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left knee and designated right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill for assignment, as announced by D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Putz, 37, appeared in 2 rehab games for Reno on June 5-6 vs. El Paso and threw 1.2 scoreless innings with 1 hit, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. He was placed on the disabled list on May 6 (retro to May 4) with right forearm tightness. In 13 relief outings for the D-backs, he is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (6 ER in 10.0 IP).

Harris, 29, held opponents scoreless in his last 5 games (6.0 IP) and 10 of his last 11 games (12.0 IP) for the Aces. Overall, he appeared in 20 games for the Aces and went 3-2 with a 1.13 ERA (3 ER in 24.0 IP). In 11 home games, went 3-1 with a 0.68 ERA (1 ER in 13.1 IP). He opened the season with the D-backs and in 7 games went 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA (9 ER in 8.1 IP) before being optioned to Reno on April 14.

Chavez, 36, hit .246 (17-for-69) with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 8 RBI in 43 games for the D-backs.

Cahill, 26, went 1-6 with 1 save and a 5.66 ERA (26 ER in 41.1 IP) in 19 games (4 starts).
