This is the first call to the big leagues for Burgos after he spent seven-plus years in the Minors. He was initially signed as a non-drafted free agent by the D-backs on July 19, 2007.
Control has been an issue for the hard-throwing Burgos, but last season he made a big step forward, walking 26 and striking out 83 in 54 2/3 innings. The year before that, he issued 49 walks in 46 1/3 innings.
This spring Burgos almost made the Opening Day roster, but the D-backs decided to go with Andrew Chafin instead, because he offered them a long relief option.
"I feel like I'm dreaming right now," Burgos said. "It's unbelievable, you know? Especially after struggling a couple years in the Minor Leagues, to finally get here is amazing. It's an amazing feeling."
