Here’s the Phillies' Spring Breakout roster (Sat., 1 p.m. ET)

March 20th, 2026

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Phillies’ top three prospects could make splashes this season in Philadelphia.

Justin Crawford (PHI No. 3, MLB No. 53) is a lock to be the Opening Day center fielder. Andrew Painter (PHI No. 2, MLB No. 28) is a lock to make the rotation. Aidan Miller (PHI No. 1, MLB No. 23) could push for a promotion this summer.

They are not participating in Spring Breakout as they push for jobs and recover from an injury (Miller has a sore lower back), but Phillies fans still got a look at the other top prospects in the system, including Dante Nori (No. 7), who shined for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic as well as in the organization's first Spring Breakout game on Thursday.

What is Spring Breakout?

In 2026, MLB Spring Breakout will again be a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future -- the current stars of Minor League Baseball – in 16 exhibition games played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects. The third edition will be held from March 19-22 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training.

In 2027, Spring Breakout will be expanded into a single-elimination tournament format, with champions being crowned in both the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.

When is the Phillies’ game?

The Phillies prospects played Minnesota’s top prospects on Thursday in Fort Myers and lost the contest 9-3, but still provided plenty of highlights. Dylan Campbell provided the first long ball of Spring Breakout with a two-run jack in the game.

Toronto’s top prospects will play the Phillies' top talent on Saturday in Clearwater.

Notable position players

Dante Nori (No. 7) just finished a tremendous run for Italy in the World Baseball Classic. The Phillies selected Nori with the 27th overall pick in the 2024 Draft. His high school coach once compared him to Lenny Dykstra in regards to his style of play (i.e prototypical leadoff hitter). He is expected to start the season in Double-A Reading, but he could move quickly to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Infielder Aroon Escobar (No. 6) has continued to rise in the rankings among talent evaluators. Both were in big-league camp as non-roster invitees.

Notable pitchers

The Phillies selected Gage Wood (No. 4) with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 Draft. Almost immediately, fans wondered if he could join the bullpen for a postseason push. (It was never going to happen.) But Wood could be a fast mover through the Phillies’ system, much like Aaron Nola. The Phillies selected Nola in the first round of the 2014 Draft. He made the big leagues in 2015.

Right-hander Jean Cabrera (No. 15) is in big league camp. He is expected to open the season in the Triple-A Lehigh Valley rotation. Matthew Fisher (No. 12) is somebody the Phillies were thrilled to get in the seventh round of the 2025 Draft. Fisher got a $1.25 million signing bonus to miss college. It is the highest ever for a seventh-round pick.

Roster details

Spring Breakout rosters were constructed in two phases in 2026. Clubs initially submit preliminary 40-man player pools on Thursday, March 5, which were then pared down to the official rosters on March 18. The rosters were assembled using MLB Pipeline's Top 30 Prospects lists plus additional prospects submitted by the club.

Breakout rosters are subject to change after the first game, as right-hander Gage Wood was added and is expected to pitch on Saturday. Pitchers Cody Bowker, Alex McFarlane, Cade Obermueller and Sean Youngerman were also added to the roster for the club's second game.
