Catchers have a reputation for being slow. But you can't say that about Vahn Lackey.
The No. 3 pick in the 2026 MLB Draft and the Twins' No. 2 prospect stole two bases for the second straight game in High-A Cedar Rapids' 7-4 loss to South Bend at Four Winds Field on Saturday.
Both steals came in the eighth inning as Lackey singled to open the frame and nabbed second and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly. That came a few innings after the super-athletic backstop was caught stealing for the first time with Cedar Rapids. Through his first 24 professional games split between Single-A and High-A, Lackey has 12 stolen bases in 14 attempts. He is 7-for-8 on the basepaths with the Kernels.

Lackey's above-average speed wasn't the only tool on display Saturday; his 60-grade hitting ability was also evident as he singled three times in five at-bats. Lackey reached on an infield single in the fifth, saw a blooper fall into shallow left field in the eighth and ripped a pitch through the left side in the ninth. Lackey has 11 hits in 33 at-bats at High-A -- the same amount of hits he had in 54 ABs with Single-A Fort Myers.
He owns a .333/.522/545 slash line across 72 plate appearances with the Kernels. That includes two home runs, 13 walks and only eight strikeouts across nine games.
