Injury: Left groin tightness
Expected return: Day to day
Status: Matsui sustained the injury during a live batting practice session on Feb. 19, casting doubt upon his availability for Samurai Japan at the World Baseball Classic. It's unclear when he will resume throwing, but his Opening Day status for the Padres does not appear to be in doubt. (Last updated: Feb. 20)

Injury: Left Achilles tear
Expected return: Late April or May
Status: Canning's 2025 season ended in June because of the injury. Before signing with the Padres, he threw for scouts and reportedly looked sharp, and he threw his first bullpen on Feb. 19. He's expected to miss the start of the season, but should avoid the 60-day IL. (Last updated: Feb. 20)

Injury: Left quadriceps tendon rupture
Expected return: Early in 2026 season
Status: Adam underwent quadriceps surgery in September with a 6-9 month recovery timetable. He is targeting Opening Day for a return and faced hitters for the first time on Feb. 20. (Last updated: Feb. 20)

Injury: Left oblique strain
Expected return: Opening Day roster
Status: Song sustained the injury taking batting practice in January. He might be limited early in camp but should be fully built up before Opening Day. (Last updated: Feb. 17)

Injury: Tommy John surgery (torn right UCL)
Expected return: Opening Day roster
Status: Musgrove said he had a "normal offseason" progression after missing the 2025 season while rehabbing. He resumed throwing bullpen sessions in late December and faced hitters for the first time in mid-February. (Last updated: Feb. 16) More >>

Injury: Right elbow UCL surgery
Expected return: 2026
Status: Brito underwent UCL internal brace surgery as well as a flexor tendon repair operation in April. He will miss at least the first two months of the season and was placed on the 60-day IL on Feb. 16 in a procedural move. (Last updated: Feb. 16)

Injury: Right UCL internal brace surgery
Expected return: 2027
