Mariners-O's postponed Wed.; twin bill today

April 15th, 2021

Inclement weather continued to interrupt the Orioles’ first homestand on Wednesday, when for the second time in three days, they had their scheduled game against the Mariners postponed due to rain.

The two teams will play a single-admission doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 12:35 p.m. ET. Game 2 will begin approximately 45 minutes after the first game concludes.

Looking for his first victory in his third Orioles start, Matt Harvey, who was slated to pitch Wednesday, will start Game 1 on Thursday opposite Marco Gonzales, and Bruce Zimmermann will face off vs. Justin Dunn in the nightcap.

Fans holding tickets for Thursday’s originally scheduled 1:05 p.m. game can use those tickets for both games of the doubleheader, the team announced in a release. Tickets for Wednesday’s postponed game will not be automatically honored for Thursday’s doubleheader, but Birdland members with tickets and parking passes may exchange their value for any future 2021 regular-season home game, including Thursday’s doubleheader.

Gates will open one hour before first pitch at 11:35 a.m.

The Orioles and Mariners had the opener of this four-game series postponed Monday, making it up as part of a split doubleheader Tuesday. Baltimore won the nightcap, 7-6, on Ramón Urías' walk-off single.

Roster move
The Orioles shook up their bullpen prior to Wednesday’s postponement, placing right-hander Mac Sceroler on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder tendinitis. Right-hander Travis Lakins Sr. was recalled from the alternate training site in a corresponding move.

One of two Rule 5 Draft picks to claim jobs in the Orioles’ bullpen out of Spring Training, Sceroler threw 2 2/3 shutout innings against the Yankees in his MLB debut on April 5. He allowed three runs in his other appearance on April 11 against the Red Sox. Lakins made his 2021 debut as the 27th man in Tuesday’s doubleheader, pitching a scoreless inning in the O’s Game 1 loss to the Mariners. He posted a 2.81 ERA in 22 appearances last season, mostly in middle relief.
