SARASOTA, Fla. -- Mark Trumbo will be out a minimum of 3-4 weeks with a strained right quad, and the designated hitter/outfielder wants to make sure the injury is healed before he plays again.
"It's just unfortunate in a number of ways," Trumbo said. "It's kind of hard to tell exactly where you're at until you're going full speed, and I think that was the case here."
Trumbo, who is batting .130 with a home run and three RBIs this spring, missed a week with the quad injury, returned to action on Wednesday and felt discomfort later that night.

"I wouldn't say it felt as good as it has when I'm 100 percent," Trumbo said. "But, at the end of the day, where we're at in the spring, it's important to get the at-bats -- and you're kind of taught to fight through [injuries], get out there. That was kind of where my mind was at.
"I was hoping it would allow me to get the reps needed to perform. When I got home that night, it simply didn't respond too well."

Trumbo doesn't intend to adhere to a specific timetable.
"However long it takes [to get better], is what it takes," Trumbo said. "It's one of these things that can just nag and nag. We've got to make sure we get it right. Whatever timeframe it is, we'll deal with."
Trumbo isn't sure whether he'll remain in Florida when the Orioles head north on March 26.

"Ideally, I'm ready to go in three weeks and contributing," Trumbo said. "I think I need to be a little bit smarter and really make sure I'm ready to go."
Chris Davis is scheduled to return on Sunday. He hasn't played since March 2, due to a sore right elbow.
"[Davis] tried to talk me into playing [on Saturday], but I've got a plan and a process," manager Buck Showalter said. "We'll stick to it until tomorrow. He's going to do everything again today."
Danny Valencia started at third base against the Blue Jays on Saturday. Trumbo's injury increases Valencia's chances to make the club.
Showalter said Valencia, who has some experience at the corner-outfield positions, is working to take some fly balls, and could see time there during the final week of spring games.
Wright runs into trouble in fifth
Mike Wright Jr., who is in a tight competition for the Orioles' fifth starter's spot, had a rocky fifth inning on Saturday vs. the Blue Jays. And his overall line -- four runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings -- left a lot to be desired.
"It doesn't help. That is for sure," Wright said of his fifth-inning woes. "Leading up to that point, I think I was in a good spot. So, you know, hopefully what I did those first four innings helps my case going forward."
Wright allowed one run in the first four innings, and he was helped defensively when Adam Jones started double plays from center field in both the first and third innings in the Orioles' 5-2 loss to Toronto.
The right-hander, whose spring ERA is now 4.91, is competing with Miguel Castro and Nestor Cortes Jr.
Showalter said Wright's outing wasn't bad.
"During the season, he'd give us a good chance to win there, especially when he gets a couple more outings under his belt," Showalter said.
Wright should have one more Grapefruit League start to make his case.
"Obviously, if I could have stopped after those first four innings, we'd be having a lot different conversation here," Wright said.
