Brown activated from disabled list, Nix designated

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies on Tuesday afternoon activated Domonic Brown from the seven-day concussion disabled list and designated Laynce Nix for assignment.

Brown went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBIs Monday in a rehab assignment with Class A Lakewood. He had been scheduled to play Tuesday with Double-A Reading, but the Phillies believed him to be ready to return a day early.

Nix hit .180 with four doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs and a .486 OPS in 136 plate appearances this season with the Phillies, who signed him to a two-year, $2.5 million contract in December 2011.

Brown, a first-time All-Star last month, has been having a breakout season, hitting .271 with 24 home runs and 69 RBIs in 99 games.
