Stefan, Lakewood's bullpen combine for no-no
Right-hander, two relievers spin fourth Lakewood no-hitter, first since '06
In only his fourth start this season, Phillies prospect Jeb Stefan threw six innings of a combined no-hitter Thursday, a 1-0 win for the fourth no-no in Class A Lakewood's 13-year history, this one against Braves affiliate Rome.
Stefan threw six hitless innings, before Ramon Oviedo tossed two perfect innings and Chris Burgess finished it off with a hitless ninth.
Stefan (3-4) struck out five and walked four for the BlueClaws. Getting stronger as the game went on, the right-hander retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced.
Working out of the bullpen for much of the season, the 23-year-old Louisiana native was a 22nd-round pick of the Phillies in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Louisiana Tech.
Oviedo struck out four over two innings in his debut with Lakewood.
Burgess walked one in the ninth, but was able to close the door for his second save of the season.
The last no-hitter for the BlueClaws was on Aug. 13, 2006, when Carlos Carrasco and Adam Bard combined for the bid.
