ST. PETERSBURG – The Yankees entrusted their lineup card to field coordinator and director of catching Tanner Swanson in the sixth inning on Wednesday, with manager Aaron Boone and bench coach Brad Ausmus both ejected from the club’s 3-0 loss to the Rays at Tropicana Field.
Ausmus appeared to be ejected first, tossed by home-plate umpire Doug Eddings following a double play that featured Paul Goldschmidt striking out against Shane McClanahan and José Caballero thrown out at second base.
When Boone came out of the dugout to approach Eddings, he also was ejected. It was Boone’s third ejection of the season and the 49th of his career.
Swanson served as the bench coach for Great Britain during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
