CHICAGO -- Aaron Judge has yet to swing a bat since a Jakob Junis pitch fractured his wrist July 26. Judge had been throwing up to 5 feet -- the length of the batting cage during batting practice -- a few days ago, but his return will come down to pain tolerance, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.
"The pain has to be all the way out of there," Boone said. "Once it is, I think it goes fast from there potentially, because he's in great shape, he's been able to do all his conditioning, lower body, even upper-body strength stuff."
"We're going to be smart, and Aaron's going to be smart, about making sure he's pain-free when he has those movements when he's got to cut it loose throwing and obviously swinging a bat," he added.
Worth noting
• Boone said Monday that J.A. Happ will likely come off the disabled list and start Thursday, and Happ threw a bullpen Tuesday in New York to prepare. Happ threw six innings of one-run ball in his only Yankees start before contracting hand, foot and mouth disease.
• Despite being held out of the lineup the last two days, Austin Romine is not injured, Boone said. Having played five days in a row, including the five-hour finale against the Red Sox last Sunday, Romine was scheduled to get Monday off anyway, but needed another day to rest Tuesday.
