MINNEAPOLIS – Target Field has been Byron Buxton’s house for a while now, but on Monday night, he really made it official.
Buxton hit a solo homer in the fifth inning of the Twins’ 13-6 win against the Red Sox, making him the ballpark’s all-time home run leader. It’s the 85th homer of his career at Target Field, which opened in 2010.
A veteran and holder of many noteworthy Twins marks, Buxton acknowledged that this one has some significance – even if he has no plans to stop at 85.
“I ain't done yet,” Buxton said with a laugh.
“It does mean a lot. … Just to be able to wear this uniform and do it in this uniform, do it here in front of the fans. Everyone in here wishes it could be something they can do. I had a few of them go, 'I'm coming for you, but I got 85 more to go,' and it's like funny stories like that. Definitely don't take it for granted. It's been a long time."
The blast, which gave Minnesota a 12-3 lead at the time, broke a tie with Max Kepler, who played for the Twins from 2015-24.
It was Buxton’s first homer of the year, following a career-best 35 in 2025. Buxton has 169 career home runs overall – 85 at home and 84 on the road.
