ST. PETERSBURG -- Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar had himself a day against the Rays, all by the middle of the second inning of the Yankees' 7-6, 12-inning loss to the Rays.
"He's been solid," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "His fielding has been solid, his throwing has been solid, and obviously, the bat's been excellent. All around, he's been an impact player, and it's a credit to him."
The rookie started off by flashing some leather in the bottom of the first. With lefty Jake Bauers batting and the Yankees' infield in a left-handed shift, Andujar was able to track down a fly ball into foul ground in left field. Andujar, who has impressed Boone with his defensive progress, made the over-the-shoulder catch at full speed near the team's bullpen.
According to Statcast™, Andujar had to travel 90 feet from his starting point to make the catch.

Andujar then followed that up with a thunderous blast in the top of the second.
Giancarlo Stanton blistered a line drive through the shift for a leadoff double, and a walk to Aaron Hicks put men on the corners. Andujar, who leads American League rookies with 36 extra-base hits this season, smoked an 0-1 changeup from Rays starter Matt Andriese that hung on the inner half of the plate, off the facade of the upper deck of Tropicana Field.
According to Statcast™, Andujar's 11th home run of the season traveled 401 feet, and it left the bat with an exit velocity of 98.9 mph and a launch angle of 38 degrees.
Andujar finished the day 1-for-5. His 11 home runs are tied with Joe DiMaggio (1936) and Nick Johnson (2002) for the third most by a Yankees rookie before the All-Star break. His .284 average this season is second-highest among American League rookies behind teammate Gleyber Torres (.286).
