Nickname Knockout -- the fan-voted tournament to determine who has the best nickname in Minor League Baseball -- is headed into the home stretch, and The Iowa Meat Truck is leading the pack.
Voting for this 32-player bracket began on May 19 and will run through Friday, May 29, at noon ET. Fans can complete five rounds of voting with head-to-head matchups, and every round contributes points to a player's overall score. Each round doubles in point value, and the player with the most points across every bracket will be the winner.
Coming into the week after Memorial Day, Blue Jays prospect Peyton Williams – aka The Iowa Meat Truck – had amassed 24,077 points. The Pirates’ Jhostynxon “The Password” Garcia, who made his big league debut the day voting began, was in shouting distance of the lead with 19,343 points.
Three other competitors – the Guardians’ Jace LaViolette (Lord Tubbington), the Giants’ Matt Wilkinson (Tugboat) and the Orioles’ Jhonkensy Noel (Big Christmas) – had all collected more than 10,000 points coming into the final four days of voting.
