Watch Judge's mom react to her son's historic homer

October 5th, 2022

The precipice of history is a high-pressure place to be -- let alone for two weeks. When connected on his American League-record 62nd home run on Tuesday, he was undoubtedly relieved of at least some of that pressure.

But if anyone was more relieved than Judge himself, it was his mother, Patty, who has been in the stands for every Yankees game since Judge hit No. 60 on Sept. 20, accompanying the team on two road trips through Toronto and Texas, even when other friends and family members were unable to attend.

Her commitment to seeing her son’s achievement in person was thankfully rewarded on Tuesday night, when Judge took Rangers right-hander Jesus Tinoco deep to lead off the second game of their doubleheader, finally surpassing Roger Maris. While others in Judge’s cheering section were on their feet from the moment of contact, his mom had a much more subdued -- but no less joyful -- reaction.

Time will tell where the ball hit for No. 62 will spend the rest of its life, as it was caught by a fan in the left-field stands. But home run No. 61, which landed in the Blue Jays bullpen, was immediately returned to Judge – and then gifted to his mom.
