Yankees sign LHP Fernando Abad

The Yankees signed LHP Fernando Abad (#63) to a minor league contract and added him to their 60-man roster on 7/23. Abad has been assigned to the Yankees’ Alternate Training Site.

Abad attended spring training with the Nationals as a non-roster invitee, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings and allowing 1H over four spring training relief appearances (all in Florida). He signed a minor league contract with the Nationals on 12/29/19 and was released on 7/17/20. In 2019, he made 21 relief appearances with San Francisco, going 0-2 with a 4.15 ERA (13.0IP, 6ER). He began the season in the minors and combined with Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento to go 3-3 with 13 saves, a 2.70 ERA (50.0IP, 15ER) and 55K in 41 relief appearances. Over parts of nine Major League seasons, he has pitched for Houston (2010-12), Washington (2013), Oakland (2014-15), Minnesota (2016), Boston (2016-17) and San Francisco (2019).
