Weather may play factor in Game 3

DETROIT -- With October baseball comes October weather, though the A's and Tigers were rather spoiled while splitting the first two games of the best-of-five American League Division Series by way of 80-degree temperatures in Oakland.

But when both teams landed in Detroit early Sunday morning, they were greeted by ominous skies that ultimately led to an afternoon downpour. The rain could spill over into Monday, when the series resumes with Game 3 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET on MLB Network.

Weather.com forecasts called for a 100 percent chance of rain through Sunday night, though it looks more promising for Monday. There is a 30 percent chance of scattered showers throughout the day, prominently in the morning, with partly cloudy skies anticipated later in the day.

That's good news for the A's and Tigers, who would have to play Tuesday and Wednesday in the event of a postponed Game 3, meaning they would lose an off-day Wednesday in advance of a potential Game 5 in Oakland on Thursday.

There's a good chance the winner of that game would have to be in Boston the next day for workouts in advance of the AL Championship Series that begins Saturday. The Red Sox, who have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, are leading the Rays, 2-0, in their best-of-five ALDS. Game 3 in that series is Monday.

However, should Tampa Bay come back to win the series, the ALCS would begin in either Oakland or Detroit.
