Sixteen million viewers tune in to Game 4 drama
Most-watched contest since Phils, Yanks in Game 7 of 2011 World Series
The World Series is delivering compelling theater, and a huge swath of the country is watching. Boston's 4-2 victory in Game 4 on Sunday night drew 16 million viewers, which made it the most-watched baseball game since Game 7 of the 2011 World Series between the Cardinals and Rangers.
Through four games, the World Series has seen its overall ratings improve by 11 percent over last season, and its 8.4 household rating is the highest-rated edition of the Fall Classic since 2009 (Phillies vs. Yankees). This year's World Series has drawn an average of 14 million viewers per game.
Game 4 drew an especially high rating in St. Louis (46.7), and Boston viewers also tuned in at an unusually high clip (34.7) for the Red Sox's dramatic victory, which tied the Series at two games apiece. In those two markets, 69 percent of the available televisions were tuned to the baseball game at its peak.
The Red Sox and Cards will play Game 5 on Monday night at Busch Stadium, airing live on FOX at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT. First pitch will be at 8:07/7:07 p.m.
