Mariners Select RHP Brandon Brenan in the Rule 5 Draft

The Seattle Mariners announced today from the MLB Winter Meetings that the club has selected right-handed pitcher Brandon Brennan from the Colorado organization in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Seattle Mariners announced today from the MLB Winter Meetings that the club has selected right-handed pitcher Brandon Brennan from the Colorado organization in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
A player selected in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft must be kept on the Major League 25-man roster of the drafting team for the entirety of next season, and the selected player must remain active (not on the disabled list) for a minimum of 90 days. If the player does not remain on the Major League roster, he is offered back to the team from which he was selected.
Seattle's Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 37 players.
Brennan, 27, who was selected from the Colorado organization, spent the majority of the 2018 season with Double-A Birmingham, but also appeared in 4 games with Triple-A Charlotte. He come combined to go 5-4 with 1 save and a 3.25 ERA (27 ER, 74.2 IP) in 44 games, 1 start in the White Sox minor league system last season. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound, right-handed pitcher, limited opponents to a .205 (57x278) average while walking 24 and striking out 79. In 40 appearances with Birmingham, he went 4-3 with a 3.10 (24 ER, 69.2 IP). Among Southern League relievers he ranked 3rd in lowest opponents batting average (.197/50x254), lowest walks per 9.0 innings (2.49) and fewest baserunners per 9.0 innings (9.31). Brennan was promoted to Charlotte on Aug. 25 and made his Triple-A debut that night vs. Gwinnett (L, 1.0,3,3,3,2,2). After allowing 3 runs in his first outing, tossed 4.0 scoreless 3 outings to close out the season, going 1-1 with a 5.40 (3 ER, 5.0 IP) in 4 games. Brennan also appeared in 12 games with Yaquis de Obregon in the Mexican Winter league, going 2-2 with 1 save and a 2.51 ERA (4 ER, 14.1 IP).
 
Brennan has spent his entire 7-year minor league career in Chicago-AL organization, going 25-34 with 16 saves and a 4.64 ERA (249 ER, 482.2 IP) in 172 games, 64 starts. He was selected by the White Sox in the 4th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Orange Coast College.
