Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto today from Spring Training announced the following medical update on Mariners infielder Ryon Healy:
Healy underwent successful surgery to remove a bone spur in his right hand on February 14.
The surgery (officially a right hand metacarpal boss excision) was performed by Dr. Randall W. Culp in Philadelphia. Healy will begin rehabilitation immediately and is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.
Healy, 26, hit .271 (156x576) with 29 doubles, 25 home runs and 78 RBI in 149 games with Oakland in 2017. He was acquired by the Mariners from Oakland in exchange for right-handed pitcher Emilio Pagan and infielder Alexander Campos on Nov. 15, 2017. The 6-foot-4, 232-pound first baseman made his Major League debut with the Athletics on July 15, 2016, appearing in 72 games and posting a .305 (82x269) average with 20 doubles and 13 home runs while slugging .524. Healy was originally drafted by Oakland in the 3rd round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
