Mariners Acquire RHP Eduard Bazardo from Baltimore

Minor league right-hander Logan Rinehart dealt to Orioles

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the Mariners have acquired right-handed pitcher Eduard Bazardo from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Logan Rinehart.

Bazardo (buh-ZAR-doh), 27, will report to Triple-A Tacoma. He was designated for assignment by Baltimore on July 30. He made 3 relief appearances with the Orioles this season and in 27 games (one start) with Triple-A Norfolk this season is 4-1 with 2 saves and a 3.05 ERA (13 ER, 38.1 IP) with 11 walks and 43 strikeouts.

Bazardo has appeared in 3 Major League seasons with Boston (2021-22) and Baltimore (2023), going 1-0 with a 3.74 ERA (9 ER, 21.2 IP) with 6 walks and 15 strikeouts. The right-hander made his Major League debut with the Red Sox on April 14, 2021 vs. Minnesota. He signed a 1-year Major League contract with Baltimore on Dec. 19, 2022.

The Maracay, Venezuela native originally signed with Boston as an international free agent on Sept. 4, 2014. In 178 career minor league games (36 starts), Bazardo is 31-25 with 16 saves and a 2.86 ERA (134 ER, 421.0 IP) with 117 walks and 466 strikeouts.

Rinehart, 25, is 1-3 with 10 saves and a 2.84 ERA (12 ER, 38.0 IP) with 12 walks and 51 strikeouts in 31 appearances with High-A Everett this season. The righty was originally selected by Seattle in the 16th round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of California Baptist University. Rinehart missed the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow. In 63 games (13 starts) in the Mariners system, Rinehart is 6-6 with 12 saves and a 3.37 ERA (49 ER, 131.0 IP) with 43 walks and 151 strikeouts.
