SEATTLE -- Two new faces joined Baltimore on Monday as the team called up catcher Chance Sisco and right-handed pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis from Triple-A Norfolk before the opener of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.
Sisco was in the lineup batting seventh Monday as the designated hitter in place of Chris Davis, who was removed from the lineup by manager Buck Showalter due to illness.
"He wants to play, but he's dragging," Showalter said of Davis. " … Going to seize that opportunity to get a young player some at-bats."
Sisco hit .158 in 68 games with Baltimore before being sent to Norfolk on July 17. With the Tides, who wrapped up their season Monday, he hit .242 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 38 games.
"This has been good experience for him this year, up here [with Baltimore]," Showalter said. "We will pick our spots. … Tonight I saw a spot where I thought it would be a good idea for him to get the at-bats."
Yacabonis has made two relief appearances and four starts for the Orioles this season, posting an 0-2 record and 8.38 ERA. He made 21 starts with Norfolk, going 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA.

Akin named Eastern League Pitcher of the Year
Left-hander Keegan Akin was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Year on Monday after posting a 14-7 record and 3.27 ERA in 25 starts with Double-A Bowie this season. Akin led the Eastern League in wins, strikeouts (142) and batting average against (.225), and was named to the 2018 Eastern League All-Star team. A second-round pick in 2016, Akin is rated the 12th-best prospect in the Orioles' organization by MLB Pipeline.
"We are excited about his progress," Showalter said. "He had a great year. There is a lot of things to like about him."
