BOSTON -- Adam Jones walked over to glance at the lineup card on the board of the visiting clubhouse Monday at Fenway Park and let out a long, emphatic, "Yesssss."
The 33-year-old Jones was penciled in at left field for the first time in his Oriole career in a series-opening 6-2 loss to the Red Sox.
Jones, who moved over from center field last month to make room for prospect Cedric Mullins, has seen sporadic playing time as of late in right field. But Monday's move to put him in left -- which slotted former first-round pick DJ Stewart in right -- certainly seemed energizing.
"We think DJ has a chance to contribute here, and I want to take the opportunity for him to play right field here," manager Buck Showalter said. "Maybe tomorrow or the next day, get him some innings in left field. Adam, left [or] right [doesn't really matter.] He's closer to the dugout."
Jones played 11 games in left field in 2007 for Seattle before being traded to Baltimore that offseason. The free-agent-to-be has been shuffled around considerably this season, and Monday was his first big league start in left since Sept. 30, 2007.
