Rained-out O's tied for final Wild Card spot

August 11th, 2022

BALTIMORE -- The most productive rainout ever?

Wednesday night’s finale between the Orioles and Blue Jays at Camden Yards was postponed due to inclement weather, retroactively handing the O’s a two-game sweep against a Toronto team they are chasing in the American League Wild Card standings. But after the Rays’ loss to the Brewers earlier in the day, Baltimore moved into playoff position anyway, now tied with Tampa Bay for the third and final Wild Card spot.

The tilt against the Blue Jays will be made up as a Labor Day single-admission doubleheader on Sept. 5, starting at 1:05 p.m. ET. Game 2 will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

The Orioles' rotation will remain on schedule, with sliding back from his scheduled Wednesday start to Thursday in Boston.

The Orioles, at the very least, get a day off their feet amid what has been a grind of a stretch. In the middle of 17 consecutive games without an off-day, Baltimore now heads to play Boston for one game on Thursday -- a game rescheduled due to the lockout -- then flies down to play Tampa Bay for a three-game set starting Friday, then all the way back north to face the Blue Jays in Toronto starting Monday.

The Orioles will return from Toronto for a rescheduled game against the Cubs on Aug. 18 -- another rescheduled rainout, this one erasing an off-day -- before opening a three-game set against the Red Sox that ends with the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pa., on Aug. 21.
