Holliday's weeklong celebration: 11 hits for Aberdeen

No. 1 Orioles prospect rips two homers over productive four-game stretch

May 21st, 2023

The train just keeps on rolling.

The No. 3 prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline has been hitting at a torrid pace all year and added another 11 hits and two homers to his season totals this week, the second of which came in High-A Aberdeen’s 12-5 win over Winston-Salem on Saturday night.

After a pitching change for the Dash in the sixth inning brought in right-hander Will Kincanon, Holliday launched the first pitch he saw over the left-center field wall for his sixth homer of the year. The solo shot started a six-run inning for the IronBirds that gave them an 8-4 lead.

The Orioles' top prospect followed the big fly with a double in the seventh inning, finishing the night 2-for-5. Strong offensive performances like this have become routine for the 19-year-old, who is amidst a brilliant 2023 season.

Holliday began the year with Single-A Delmarva, where he posted a .392 average and 1.190 OPS with two home runs.

His production at the plate proved he was ready for a promotion after just 13 games -- off he went to High-A Aberdeen. In Holliday’s first two games with the new club, he went a combined 0-for-7, but it did not take long for him to settle in. Since that point, he has feasted on High-A pitching, going 28-for-65.

Holliday has slashed .389/.494/.736 in High-A Aberdeen, with 13 extra-base hits, four of which are home runs. The Oklahoma native has also swiped seven bases and touts a 14/15 strikeout-to-walk ratio that can leave fans optimistic about his plate awareness.

The 2022 first overall pick has shown no signs of his dominance stopping and already looks primed for the next challenge -- whenever that may come.
