Orioles first baseman Trey Mancini left Thursday night's 5-1 loss to the White Sox in the bottom of the first inning after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch from White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease in the series opener at Guaranteed Rate Field.

X-rays taken were negative and Mancini was diagnosed with a contusion. According to manager Brandon Hyde, Mancini will not undergo any more tests.

“We are going to see how he feels [on Friday],” Hyde said after his team lost its 10th in a row. “I’m sure it’s going to be sore. It got him on a tender spot by the elbow.”

Mancini was hit in the top of the first inning by a 94.7 mph four-seam fastball. With none out and Cedric Mullins on first base, Mancini was drilled square on the right elbow and was down on the ground for several minutes. The elbow was not protected by a pad.

He was able to get up and sprinted to first base. But after that half inning was over, Mancini was warming up and decided to leave the game. He was replaced by Pat Valaika.

After missing the 2020 season because of colon cancer, Mancini is having a nice comeback season. He leads the Orioles with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs.
