Judge (5 HRs, 10 RBIs), Kelly (0 R, 15 K's, 15 IP) nab weekly awards

August 1st, 2022

The Yankees' and the D-backs' served as the heartbeat for their clubs this week. For that, they've been named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet.

This is the second straight Player of the Week win for Judge, who batted .348 with five home runs and 10 RBIs in six games last week. Judge hit a home run in four of the six games, with his best performance coming in the form of a two-homer, six-RBI game against the Royals on Friday. A day later, Judge slugged his 200th career home run.

On Thursday, Judge opened the Yankees' series against the Royals by slugging a walk-off home run to give New York a 1-0 win. It was Judge's third walk-off blast this year, which ties him with Mickey Mantle for the most walk-off home runs in a season in Yanks history. Judge is batting .297 on the season with 42 home runs and 91 RBIs. This is Judge's fifth career Player of the Week recognition.

If Judge was the king in the batter's box, then Kelly was the king on the mound, tossing 15 scoreless innings across two starts last week.

Kelly opened the week by scattering three hits over eight scoreless innings in Arizona's 10-5 win over San Francisco on Monday before tossing seven scoreless innings against Atlanta on Sunday. In total, Kelly allowed just six hits over the two starts while striking out 15 batters and only walking two.

This is Kelly's first Player of the Week Award, and he becomes the first D-back to earn the honor since Tyler Gilbert.
