TORONTO -- On his first day with the Yankees, Brandon Drury explained the changes that he is working on with his swing, hoping to convert some of his doubles into home runs this season.
The infielder cleared the fences for the first time in his new uniform in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Blue Jays, launching a two-run homer to left-center field as part of a four-run frame against right-hander Marcus Stroman.
"It was a hanging slider, so it was a little easier to get that ball in the air," Drury said. "I think any swing that I elevate is definitely a product of the work I've put in."
Drury hit .267/.317/.447 with 37 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 63 RBIs in 135 games for the D-backs last season. Yankees scouts see untapped potential in the 25-year-old, who was acquired from Arizona as part of a three-team trade on Feb. 20.
"We're excited to get back home and play in front of our fans, and get back to work," Drury said.
