Pretty much no human being is capable of hitting the ball as hard as Giancarlo Stanton.
That elite pop was on display in Sunday’s game against the Marlins, when Stanton crushed a single with an exit velocity of 116.3 mph off the left-field wall at Yankee Stadium. Stanton didn’t just hit the ball so hard that it limited him to a single -- it also left a mark.
“Look at the dent in the wall,” exclaimed Yankees play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay as a close-up shot revealed the damage.
This type of contact quality is nothing new for Stanton, who owns many of the hardest-hit balls in the Statcast era. Just for reference, Stanton has hit 216 balls with a 115-plus mph exit velocity since 2015, by far the most of any player (teammate Aaron Judge is second with 99).
