Urshela exits with 'mild' ankle sprain

ARLINGTON -- Injuries have been the Yankees' constant companion throughout the 162-game gauntlet. The final day of the season was no exception, as third baseman was forced to exit Sunday with a "mild left ankle sprain."

Urshela was removed for precautionary reasons, according to the Yankees. He was seen by doctors at Globe Life Park during the Yankees' 6-1 loss to the Rangers, and no further testing was scheduled.

Urshela sustained the injury while fielding Nick Solak's fourth-inning ground ball, ranging into foul territory as he made the throw across the infield for the out. Urshela was hobbled after the play, drawing attention from manager Aaron Boone and head athletic trainer Steve Donohue.

The Yankees immediately replaced Urshela at third base with off the bench.

One of the great breakout stories of this season, Urshela has been envisioned as playing a prominent role in the Yanks' postseason. If healthy, Urshela will likely man third base for the majority of the club's games, beginning in the upcoming American League Division Series against the Twins.
