Foul ball bounce off sensitive area forces Jazz from game

NEW YORK -- might need a few minutes.

The Yankees infielder exited Thursday’s game against the White Sox after fouling a ball off the ground near home plate, which bounced up and struck a sensitive region.

Chisholm remained down for several moments, attended to by head athletic trainer Tim Lentych. There was a cheer heard when he rose to his feet, but he remained hunched over and still in obvious discomfort.

Eventually, Chisholm was unable to remain in the game. Anthony Volpe replaced Chisholm as a pinch-hitter, inheriting a 2-2 count against Sean Burke. Volpe worked a walk.

After Chisholm’s departure, there was an audible groan from the crowd as television replays showed the foul ball in question.

The Yankees did not make an immediate announcement regarding the injury, but this much is clear: Chisholm may consider wearing a protective cup when he returns to the lineup.
