Hall of Famer Torre joins Boone's staff for 2025 All-Star Game

NEW YORK – When Joe Torre agreed to visit the Yankees as a guest instructor two springs ago, it took a bit of cajoling on manager Aaron Boone’s part. After some initial reluctance to put the pinstripes back on, the Hall of Fame skipper ultimately loved his experience.

So it delighted Boone when Torre eagerly accepted an invitation to serve as an honorary American League coach for the 2025 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, to be played at Atlanta’s Truist Park.

“Right away, he was like, ‘Yes!’” Boone said. “He seemed really excited about it. He seemed moved by it, which could not have gone better in my eyes.”

Torre, who serves as a special assistant to MLB Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, was the manager for Boone’s lone season as an active Yankee in 2003, when Boone launched a pennant-clinching home run to topple the Red Sox.

With the Yanks, Torre presided over four World Series championships (1996, 1998-2000) and six AL pennants (also 2001 and ’03).

Torre managed 29 seasons in the Majors and ranks fifth all time with 2,326 managerial wins, also guiding the Mets (1977-81), Braves (1982-84), Cardinals (1990-95) and Dodgers (2008-10). Torre has been a Yankees guest instructor during each of the past two springs.

“I know our guys love being around him,” Boone said. “He’s just awesome to be around. … Hopefully the rest of the American League team will love having him there, too.”

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, the reigning AL Manager of the Year, will also serve as an honorary AL coach. Boone is the first Yankees manager to pilot an All-Star Game squad since Joe Girardi in 2010.

The Dodgers’ Dave Roberts has invited Braves manager Brian Snitker and Marlins manager Clayton McCullough to serve as honorary coaches.
