Yankees deal for catcher Brantly from Giants

August 26th, 2020

The Yankees announced on Wednesday that they acquired catcher from the Giants in exchange for cash considerations. The 31-year-old Brantly will provide depth behind Gary Sánchez, Erik Kratz and Kyle Higashioka, and has been assigned to the Yanks’ alternate site in Moosic, Pa.

“He just gives us a little protection as we head into the Trade Deadline,” manager Aaron Boone said. “With all the uncertainties around this season, I think it's one of those positions you can never have enough.”

Brantly has batted .228 (89-for-391) in 128 games over parts of six Major League seasons with the Marlins (2012-13), White Sox (2015, ’17), Phillies (2019) and Giants (2020).
