Yankees deal for catcher Brantly from Giants
August 26th, 2020
The Yankees announced on Wednesday that they acquired catcher Rob Brantly from the Giants in exchange for cash considerations. The 31-year-old Brantly will provide depth behind Gary Sánchez, Erik Kratz and Kyle Higashioka, and has been assigned to the Yanks’ alternate site in Moosic, Pa.
“He just gives us a little protection as we head into the Trade Deadline,” manager Aaron Boone said. “With all the uncertainties around this season, I think it's one of those positions you can never have enough.”
Brantly has batted .228 (89-for-391) in 128 games over parts of six Major League seasons with the Marlins (2012-13), White Sox (2015, ’17), Phillies (2019) and Giants (2020).
