The Yankees had less opportunity to acquire and develop prospects than perhaps any franchise in 2020.

They possessed just three picks in the Draft after forfeiting their second- and fifth-rounders for the free-agent signing of Gerrit Cole, while MLB's pandemic-related temporary prohibition on trading for international bonus pool money helped kill a deal with Jesus Galiz, the top catcher on the market. Along with the Cardinals, they were one of two organizations that decided against holding U.S. instructional league programs in the fall. That left New York's alternate site and Dominican instructional league as the only development opportunities for a limited number of its prospects.

The system features a heavy international flavor, led by Dominican outfielder Jasson Dominguez, who has the potential for well-above-average tools across the board but also has yet to make his pro debut. New York signed 11 of its 17 best prospects internationally, including Dominican right-handers Deivi García, Luis Medina and Alexander Vizcaino, Venezuelan shortstop Oswald Peraza and Venezuelan righty Yoendrys Gomez.

Biggest jump/fall
Here are the players whose ranks changed the most from the 2020 preseason list to the 2021 preseason list.

Jump: Ezequiel Duran, 2B (2020: 27 | 2021: 15) -- The 2019 Class A Short Season New York-Penn League leader with 13 homers, he generates some of the best exit velocities in the system.

Fall: Albert Abreu, RHP (2020: 11 | 2021: 18) -- He still can flash three well-above-average pitches but has yet to prove he can throw strikes or stay healthy on a consistent basis.

(tie) Anthony Seigler, C (2020: 15 | 2021: 22) -- The most athletic of the Yankees' catching prospects, he has made little offensive impact while being hampered by injuries.
